Resumo
The research addresses the relationship between the immigration of Moroccan Sephardic Jews to the Amazon and their insertion into the social, political and economic context of small towns in the region. In this case, the study analyzes the role of the Jewish intercommunity network in the formation and emergence of leaders capable of acting in different fields of knowledge but especially in the political sphere. In the interconnection networks of this network, knowledge, benevolence, innovation, finance and news flowed from the world to the Amazon, enabling the Jewish immigrant to lay secular posture in the construction of his identity processes. In this study, documentary data was used as evidence source, ensuring the three guiding principles of empirical data collection: multiplicity of sources, database creation and maintenance of the evidence chain. Demonstrating a city that is undergoing the process of urban transformation in the first decades of the twentieth century is the objective of this work that focuses analysis in Itacoatiara, during the rubber crisis, especially in the 1920s by demonstrating the process of urban modernization undertaken by the Mayor Isaac José Pérez, characterized and delimited to the space of the Old Center Thus, it was concluded that undoubtedly the rubber economy represented the period of prosperity for Itacoatiara. Largely, dependence on a single economic resource was the determining factor for the crisis of the extractive economy that occurred after 1910. However, the symbolic exchanges that could result from this interaction are marked by economic inequalities and analogous to the spatialization between center and margin, or if we wish, of capitalism in the matrix and that in the periphery. Given all this, it is possible to understand that the modernization of the urban fabric of the Center was not enough to get Itacoatiara into modernity, as its intendants, superintendents, colonels and mayors wanted. The modernization of the urban fabric of the Center was not enough to get Itacoatiara as a whole into modernity, as its intendants, overseers, colonels and mayors wanted.
