Abstract

Companies, gradually, are looking for methods in order to reduce costs, aiming to become more competitive in the market. Inventory maintenance generates costs that negatively affect the results of organizations. The reduction of these costs can be achieved through an inventory policy, in tune with the needs of each company. In this way, this study seeks to propose the use of inventory control tools, in the materials sector of the Health and Biotechnology Institute (ISB) of the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM), in the municipality of Coari-Amazonas, with the objective of maximizing the use of materials, promote the reduction of costs and time, avoid waste and guarantee quality in the control of materials. These tools aim to improve the material handling process in the materials sector, in the stages of receiving, storing, distributing and controlling materials, as well as helping administrators in making decisions for future acquisitions. The methodological route used for this study was based on case studies where data were collected through bibliographical and documentary research, with participant observation and treaties, through content analysis. The result of the research corroborated to highlight the need to use the ABC curve inventory control technique to serve the institution's supply network with a focus on reducing costs and improving the flow of materials after analyzing the course of materials acquired in 2022. Future studies may be directed towards a suggestion of use for other UFAM units, according to the process used in each unit in relation to inventory control.
