São Sebastião do arraial e do terreiro: territorialidades urbanas e as festas de santo em Parintins (AM)

Abstract

This work presents the research on the Festivities of Saint Sebastian held in the Catholic parish and in a terreiro of Umbanda, in the city of Parintins (AM). It aimed to understand the symbolic relationship experienced by Catholics and Umbandists in the feasts of St. Sebastian and the relationship built by the interlocutors with the territory conquered via occupation of the lands of the present districts that are part of the parish today. In this context, the access of collective memories by the devotees in the two festivities (Catholic and Umbandist) was observed as a basis for the behavior and attitudes of the individuals of each religious community, in which identity bonds are established between the groups with their territories and with the Saint. The methodology used was bibliographic review and ethnographic research with the parish, Terreiro and participants in territorial occupations. The study points out that the Catholic and Umbandist communities, located in the neighborhoods of the parish of Saint, Itaúna and Jacaréacanga, remember the conquest of the house in the 1990 and in the year 2012. Once the residents received St. Sebastian as patron saint together with the territory for which they fought, with the resistance of the parintinense social movement. Thus, the parties became a place of memory, of building collective identity and updating a past that belongs to the city, capable of attributing territorial, social and religious identity to the groups.
