Resumo

The purpose of the research was to seek the solution for a note from the internal audit of Embrapa Amazônia Ocidental, which found that a parallel stock of laboratory materials had been formed in the Unit's laboratories. To this end, the concepts of Lean philosophy and the use of the VSM (Value Stream Mapping) tool were used, in this case. The research was developed using a qualitative approach as a methodology, with information gathering and data collection procedures from the sectors involved, observation of the inventory management process, from ordering to receipt of materials and conducting structured and unstructured. Based on the research carried out, graphs of the current VSM were created, through which it was possible to map all stages of the process and identify the main bottleneck and the recommended action to execute the improvement process (Kaizen) and the future VSM, in which the duly adjusted steps were demonstrated, with the implementation of improvement proposals. Finally, it is concluded that the VSM tool proved to be effectively important and necessary for achieving the objective, allowing the precise identification of the point requiring the application of Kaizen, which represented a success for Embrapa, which will begin a process of correction through the solutions presented in this study, as well as contributing with reference for the academic world and other teaching and research institutions.
