Resumo
The Pharmacy course at the Institute of Science and Technology (ICET) of the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) began in the second semester of 2007. Failures and retentions can prolong the time to complete the course, which may lead the student to drop out of the program. Therefore, the study aimed to analyze the number of approvals and rejections in Pharmacy course subjects at ICET/UFAM from 2007 to 2023, and to survey how many students managed to graduate and the time it took to complete the degree. Thus, a quantitative description was made, using data from the ecampus, with the number of students approved and failed in the 57 subjects of the course, from the first to the tenth period, and also a count from the year/semester of entry to graduation of the graduates. The data were processed and analyzed using Microsoft Excel®. From the first to the eighth period, the subjects with the highest failure rates were Cell Biology, Classical Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry II, Basic Mycology, Genetics, Public Health, Clinical Microbiology, and Clinical Immunology (the latter two with equal rates in the same period) and Spectrometric Methods. Meanwhile, the subjects with the highest approval rates from the first to the eighth period were Introduction to Pharmacy, Histology and Embryology, Experimental Organic Chemistry I, Organic Chemistry III, Bromatology, Pharmaceutical Technology I, Hospital Pharmacy, and Clinical Parasitology. Pharmaceutical Supervised Internships I and II had a 100% approval rate, and the Final Course Project had an approval rate of 97.1%. Since the establishment of the course until the end of 2023, 129 professionals have been graduated, thus contributing to regional development in the health sector. The shortest time spent in the course was four years, while the longest was twelve and a half years. Failures result in at least one period delay for students to graduate, increasing the time spent or leading to possible dropout. There is scarce literature to use for comparison with this study, as well as being an unprecedented analysis of the course since its inception. Therefore, the study can serve as a basis for discussions among managers and teachers, thereby contributing to the review and improvement of the course.
