Resumo

The Amazon stands out as one of the few states in the North region that consumes processed hardwood for the supply of furniture value chains. Furniture value chains have relations with chains upstream and downstream as raw material supply and marketing chains, forming a production system. The municipality of Parintins presents a production system of furniture value chains that has as main raw material lumber of native forests origin, social actors who share the same geographic location and government policy at the state level to encourage production. Thus, it is necessary to analyze the system and understand the dynamics of production for the consolidation of forest industry and more sustainable furniture production in the region. The use of value chain tool; analyses of the physical, financial, human, natural and social capital associated with the system and sustainability indicators, offered significant subsidies for the understanding of the production furniture system dynamics in Parintins. Techniques for data collection comprised of analysis of documents of the institutions participating in the research, semi-structured interviews with suppliers, public officials, managers and consumers who are part of the furniture production system of Parintins and systematic observations of the production arrangement of furniture enterprises. The dynamics of forestry in the region consists of small extractors of rural communities who carry out the empirical management and suppliers who carry out the marketing of raw materials originated from technical management plans. The obstacles described by state officials and suppliers of wood originated from technical management were: the lack of financial resources of small farmers, lack of knowledge of the producers and the marketing procedures intermediated by the DOF system, delays in bureaucratic processes of the competent bodies and preferences of furniture manufacturers by empirical management woods. For secondary chains of wood processing represented by furniture factories of Parintins, it was possible to verify, through variables related to economic activities and production that there is differentiation amidst furniture chains. We conclude that furniture chains linked to government incentives through sustainable public procurement can get results that are more significant with respect to the economic, environmental and social valorization of sustainability standards. However, as the strategies of the furniture factories, there was no differentiation because managers direct their strategies only for the economic dimension. For the valorization becomes more effective in this production system, there is need of more effective actions of the furniture factories managers through a focused effort of the associative institution in the political and economic arena, as well as a strategic planning of projects guided by more sustainable patterns beyond the economic dimension and collective actions of the managers. These are some of the factors that can provide a more effective development of the furniture production system in the city of Parintins.
