Resumo
Indigenous peoples' body practices can contribute to increased physical activity. Understanding this relationship is crucial to highlight aspects of the health of these peoples. The aim of this study was to verify the level of physical activity from the body practices of the Tabalascada indigenous community, Roraima, Roraima, and the associated factors. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) was used to verify the level of physical activity. Exposure variables determined for association were: gender, age, education, income, participating in community cultural body practices, health perception, self-reported disease, and Body Mass Index. In addition, we used methodological assumptions of the qualitative study through participant observation, recorded in a field diary. Data description was performed by the absolute and relative frequency of the variables. Exploratory analysis was performed by the non-parametric chi-square test with significance level (P <0.05%). To verify the association between the independent variables and the outcomes, a multivariate logistic regression was performed, observing the values of the Hosmer and Lemeshow test (P> 0.05). Observation results in the Tabalascada community were acquired through content analysis. The findings showed that body practices were fundamental for physical activity, 66, 7% of the residents of the Tabalascada community were active in total physical activity. Participating in cultural activities was positively associated with total physical activity and displacement domain. Having subsistence work as an occupation increased the chances of being active in total physical activity and the work domain. Being female was associated with the domestic domain and being male was associated with the work domain. Young adults and low education were factors positively associated with the displacement domain. It was concluded that cultural activities of the community, as well as subsistence activity and preparation of typical foods were the main contributors to the practice of physical activity of the community, however, interventions to increase leisure activity should be prioritized by health. considering the cultural aspects of the Tabalascada community.
