Trabalho e resistência: as greves do Distrito Industrial de Manaus (1985-1986)

Abstract

This study deals with general strikes in the metallurgical sector in Manaus in the period 1985-1986, emphasizing the daily struggles and working conditions on the factory floor of the Industrial District. Therefore, the stages in basic training that introduced the category in the Amazon trade union movement are analyzed, emphasizing the importance of Pastoral Workers and the Federation of Orders for Social and Educational Assistance (FASE). In this way, the organizational process around the Metallurgist Union in the expansion of nuclei and groups formed within the companies is explored. Inserted in this context of union reorganization, the relations of conflicts between employers and employees at the Labor Court are analyzed, above all, in terms of collective organizations and the performance of the metallurgical category during strikes. Based on this approach, the participation of working women in the sphere of strikes and unions in the District is also discussed, enabling the debate on issues such as reproductive rights, sexual division of labor and sexist policy. In this sense, we focus on the process of organizing and mobilizing metalworkers around strikes and their relevance to the Amazonian labor movement.
