Resumo
The training of Information Technology (IT) professionals requires a critical and contextualized
approach, especially when considering the integration of Environmental Sciences. This
research investigated how sustainability and Green IT practices can be incorporated into IT
education, promoting sustainable practices and raising awareness about the environmental
impacts of IT activities. The study adopted a methodology that included a literature review,
workshops for developing educational products, and the validation of a specific course. A
combination of content analysis, descriptive statistics, and data collection techniques such as
questionnaires and focus groups were used. The course was developed on the Moodle platform,
structured as an Open Educational Resource (OER). Validation was carried out based on
participant feedback, followed by adjustments to enhance usability and educational
effectiveness. Categories related to environmental problems caused by IT and ways to
contribute to environmental conservation were identified. The results underscored the
importance of Green IT practices in the context of sustainability, aligning with the United
Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDGs 7, 9, and 12.
Complementary IT training should include awareness of energy consumption, electronic waste
recycling, and the development of sustainable technologies. In addition to practical solutions,
the research proposed a critical reflection on the adoption of sustainable practices in the IT field,
connecting with the establishment of Sustainable Schools.
