The expansion of undergraduate courses in Social Work in the distance modality may be aligned with the process of expansion and commercialization of Brazilian higher education, marked by a strong tendency towards the privatization of education and the lightening of training processes. This study defined as its general objective “To analyze the professional education offered in the courses of Social Work in the distance modality, its symmetries and asymmetries in relation to the ABEPSS Curriculum Guidelines and in the light of the Professional Ethical-Political Project in Amazonas”. And as specific: 1. Discuss about the origin and expansion of Social Work courses in distance learning in the Amazon; 2. Know the pedagogical projects of the distance social service courses of the investigated HEIs; 3. Verify the view of graduates, tutors and / or coordinators about the vocational training in Social Work courses in the distance modality. The methodological trajectory involved field and documentary research, with quantitative and qualitative approaches, and was carried out with 03 (three) coordinators of the courses / social service center and 15 graduates from 03 (three) Higher Education Institutions of the State of Amazonas. offer undergraduate courses in Social Work at a distance, through the application of two different forms, from December (2018) to February (2019). The documentary research was based on the analysis of the IES Curriculum Matrices, the Pedagogical Projects of the Courses, the IES Institutional Development Plan, the 1996 ABEPSS Curriculum Guidelines, the Curriculum Guidelines approved by the MEC in 2002, as well as documents prepared by CFESS / CRESS set, ABEPSS and ENESSO. Among the survey results, the following stand out: the growing expansion of distance education in Brazil is also reflected in the municipalities of Amazonas as a means of increasing the number of graduates in higher education, especially in social service courses; Among the respondents, a very positive assessment prevails regarding the infrastructure of the On-campus Support Pole's (PAP's), and the teaching offered, including the accomplishment of supervised internship, which has a positive evaluation by 100% of the graduates; In the pedagogical projects of the current courses researched, there are no disciplines that contemplate the geographical, cultural, economic and social singularities of the Amazon region, which makes distance education an even more challenging modality for training in social work; The workload of the social service courses surveyed has an average workload of 3000 hours, in compliance with the MEC and ABEPSS Guidelines; In the general composition of the teaching staff of 02 (two) HEIs investigated, there was the presence of 51 (fifty-one) masters and doctors, out of a total of 57 (fifty-seven), working in these institutions; The significant percentage of 67% of graduates are linked to the labor market as social workers. Based on the evaluation of the research subjects, training in social work in Amazonas, through distance education, mostly meets the current legislation of the Ministry of Education, although it does not meet the guidelines established by ABEPSS, the latter a challenge historically inherent also in face-to-face training. It is concluded that the challenges are immense and that the knowledge produced in this research aimed, ultimately, to contribute to the ongoing process of discussion about academic-professional training in social work, especially through distance education.
