Resumo

The recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is the most common inflammatory ulcerative disorder of no keratinized oral mucous , whose etiology is still uncertain and controversial. The herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 (HSV-1 and 2) infect litically the mucous epithelium generating clinical manifestation similar to RAS but in keratinized mucous. That said, the goal of this study was to verify the presence of herpes simplex virus 1 and/or 2 in ulcers no keratinized oral mucous of immunocompetent individuals. Sixteen patients were evaluated in the Polyclinic of Dentistry of the University of the State of Amazonas and particular service, showing ulcers in the no keratinized oral mucous and pharyngeal (one case), excluding the possibility of chemical , physics or immunosuppressive disease etiology. Swabs were collected from the centre and the periphery of aphthous lesion for the first eight patients and of the latter, in addition to scraped, 1 ml of sample of not stimulated saliva present in the mouth. Those samples were performed by Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) with multi and specific primers to each virus, after identification by the same technique of the presence of genomic DNA in the samples, and in none of these, of ulcer was found viral particle, occurring, however, the amplification fragment of HSV-2 salivary sample of one of the patients who had studied in isolation, the second time. The individual positive for the sample to feel again the symptoms identified the area suffered in the buccal floor in vesicular stage still out and made the immediate collection of smear, ulcerated lesion to shortly, and also salivate, occurring by methodology submitted, the amplification of genetic material of the virus HSV-2 in wound collected, not occurring in saliva. It was concluded with the search, the HSV has not been identified in most patients studied , except for the specific case, whose collection of biological material of the ulcer in initial stage of the condition, concluding that the HSV-2, genital mucous common infecting organism, can, in some cases, be present and be potential etiological factor of recurrent aphthous ulcers of the oral cavity.
