Resumo

System Manaus is the largest among Brazilian Isolates systems, representing about 60% of the total market. This generating capacity in 2012 is composed of units totaling 1667 MW power effectively. Of this total are 250 MW of hydro generation Balbina, 384 MW units in oil, Eletrobrás own Amazonas Energia, 470MW units with oil lease, own 254 MW units converted to natural gas (block I Aparecida, Aparecida block Maud Block II and III) and 305 MW contracted with the PIE in the final stages of conversion to natural gas. This research aims to identify a business opportunity from the diagnosis of CO2 emissions in power generation in thermal power of Manaus, making a comparison of emissions, replacing the use of liquid fuel to natural gas in order to obtain funds through the Clean Development Mechanism. The literature reports a reduction of 20% to 30% in CO2 emissions by replacing the liquid fuel to natural gas. This generates a significant reduction business opportunity through the flexibility mechanism of the Kyoto protocol, called the Clean Development Mechanism - CDM. Glimpsing these opportunities real reduction projects may be developed to obtain resources using the flexible mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol, CDM, and trading of carbon credits in both the voluntary market, the market paid. In addition to obtaining resources for emissions reductions firms also contribute to the sustainable development of the municipality.
