Resumo
The COVID-19 Pandemic is considered one of the biggest global events experienced by humanity, with this, serious effects have emerged and affected society both clinically, physically, mentally and emotionally. With the official declaration of the pandemic outbreak by the World Health Organization (WHO) in January 2020, the streets emptied, and homes began to be inhabited daily in a confined way.
The effects of social isolation and frequent coexistence among family members had consequences on domestic architecture, in addition to the fact that with emotionally unprepared homes, they tended to be unable to respond to the needs of their residents. Although the Housing Space has evolved over the years, breaking paradigms, and sharing the space with multiple rooms in an “open” project, it encounters new challenges that go beyond the visible, but rather seek to connect people with their homes.
Design needs adaptation and therefore the main problem of this research focuses on the changes in the Housing Space in the pandemic period, and with it brings the objective of building a new product – domestic furniture – adapted by promoting positive emotions and avoiding of negative emotions. In addition, because it is such a personal topic, it was considered necessary to go to families who experienced the pandemic and understand their remarkable stories within the rooms of the home.
According to the literature, one of the premises of Product Design is to apply practical, aesthetic, and symbolic functions, the latter being the environment of bringing spiritual, psychic, and social experiences and sensations, thus being like the principles of Emotional Design, which involves the psychological of the user. By applying these concepts linked to Open Innovation, which values collaboration, there is great potential for research and that is why two interactions with customers were applied, which resulted in 200 stories and 200 representations of emotions, in addition to profiles related to the stories, actions, products and emotions involved in the Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Bedroom and External Area.
Through these interactions with the subjects, the study was organized through Content Analysis and with its results, the space to be improved by generating a new and interactive product was selected.
