Resumo
Society is becoming aware that products and services must have sustainable processes in their
production chain since many materials have a long life cycle. On the other hand, among the
design areas, the social designer seeks to promote the reuse of discarded materials that still
maintains strength and quality, contributing to the environment and social well-being. Thus,
the general objective of this research was to propose and implement a simple, low-cost and
sustainable model of silkscreen workshop, to the participants of the Association of the Elderly
in Coroado (ASSIC), based on the reuse of discarded materials. For this, specific objectives
were: review the concepts of social designer, social development and silkscreen; create a
didactic strategy to qualify ASSIC participants in screen printing technologies; propose a
simple, systemic and low-cost model for setting up a screen printing workshop as an alternative
to generate income; and, develop proposals for sustainable products based on the reuse of
banner canvas discarded by printing companies in Manaus-Amazonas. The work methodology
had a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive approach. As for the data sources, a bibliographic
study and field research were carried out. The project was developed at ASSIC and sought to
contribute to the development of socio-educational and cultural actions, that promote the
improvement of living conditions and the social valorization of the elderly, the involvement
and sensitization of the Coroado community. Alternative equipment and furniture, produced
from a simplified and low-cost manufacturing process were: articulated bench, light table,
screen stretcher, multipurpose cabinet and screen printing cradle. In addition, two types of
products were designed based on the reuse of banner canvas - aprons, bags and bags. It was
also the focus of this research to develop a methodology to form multipliers of the serigraphic
process in the community, as an alternative to generate income. In this way, ASSIC will be able
to offer the serigraphy service to customers from different sectors, with a personalized and
quality product, choosing the niche and type of service that will be offered, in addition to being
a space for training community members in this technique. However, to be able to retain
customers, it will be necessary for services to be produced with quality, using appropriate
materials with punctual delivery terms. Therefore, ASSIC and the future entrepreneurs of
Coroado have the necessary tools to stand out in the market, with loyalty of future customers.
It is also noted that, in addition to bringing a new tool for generating income, this action also
contributes to motivating members of ASSIC and the Coroado community, as well as raising
environmental awareness among all those involved.
