Dental caries continues to be one of the most prevalent noncommunicable diseases in the
world population. Data related to caries continue to be traditionally collected using the normative
index DMFT (Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth). However, this index does not present
information on the clinical consequences of untreated carious lesions. The objective of this study
was to evaluate the prevalence of dental caries sequels in children in the Eastern Zone of
Manaus-AM. Socioeconomic data, DMFT index and PUFA index (Pulpar, Ulceration, Fistula,
Abscess) were collected. The majority of participants had a lower monthly family income of R $
880.00 (65.9%), with parents / guardians presenting between 8 and 11 years of schooling
(71.6%), with an average of 6.64 their residences. The prevalence of dental caries found was
65.1% and the mean DMFT was 1.94, with an emphasis on the carious component. The
prevalence of PUFA / pufa was 19.7%, and of 241 children who presented caries experience,
25.73% had some kind of sequel due to dental caries (PUFA). The most prevalent component in
relation to PUFA was pulp (P) involvement (15%). Based on the data obtained, it is concluded
that: Most of the studied population is of low income; the caries experience per individual may be
considered low, but it affects the majority of the studied population; and most children with caries
do not have caries consequences.
