Resumo
Urban forest fragments might be considered a special type of green infrastructure
caused by landscape fragmentation, that in a planned or a non-planned way generate the
presence of remainder of forests and other kinds of native vegetation inside the urban
web. Being “built” spaces, these forest fragments are under the influence of individual
and collective action and also of the social institutions (property systems, rules, laws
and plans) that control the managing of those urban spaces. Based on theories of
institutional economy and ecological principles of the landscape and considering the
relevance of environmental services valorization, this dissertation has as goal to
examine the correlation between ecological integrity of forest fragments and the many
different property systems that affect them. The conjecture of this study is the fact that
public and private property systems represent different incentive joints to conservation
of environmental resources. Having as study field the micro-watershed of Igarapé do
Gigante located in Manaus – AM, the spatial and temporal dynamic of each forest
fragment was evaluated and analyzed accordingly to its respective property system.
Therefore, the main goal of this research was verify if the maintenance of ecological
integrity of the urban forest fragments is influenced for the many different kinds of
property system that control them. Therefore, it was possible to verify that most of the
forest fragments placed in this micro-watershed are under two or more kinds of
property systems, coincidentally those were the same fragments that had shown more
negative changes over time. So it was possible to realize a clear tendency on forest
fragments characterized as multi systems due the great majority had reduced their
ecological integrity index.
