Joetyk: uma antropologia da luta corporal alto-xinguana

Abstract

This dissertation approaches wrestling from an initial survey of the fight scenes found in the archaeological sites of the Serra da Capivara National Park - PNSC, located in the southeast of the State of Piauí. In two expeditions to the PNSC, it was possible to access the main sites with references of this theme. Visual photographic records of these paintings were made to constitute a corpus for further analysis. I was fortunate to return to the PNSC with an wrestler from Upper Xingu. Based on this contact, the initial research was reformulated for ethnoarchaeological field, that is, articulating archaeological with ethnographic data, obtained later. In the field work (anthropological), possible cultural dynamics were perceived regarding wrestling. Instigating us to search where such historical changes would have occured, and investigate whether these changes could be seen as a kind of “cultural replacement”, in terms of creating a totally new element. Or if, on the other hand, the addition of exogenous element(s), was a way of reinforcing their own convictions of what they consider “more traditional”.
