Resumo
Given the similarity of the role of inflammation in the etiology of periodontal disease and prostate cancer (PC), it is possible to have an association between these two conditions, which can be manifested by the increase in the levels of PSA and CRP circulating in the blood. This study evaluated the association between periodontal status (SP) and circulating PSA and CRP levels in patients with CP. 28 men with CP diagnosed by the Oncology Control Center Foundation of the State of Amazonas participated. Those selected had their PSA and CRP levels monitored at baseline. The SP was evaluated by the parameters: Plaque Index (IP), Gingival Index (IG), Probing Depth (PS), Gingival Recession (RG), Clinical Insertion Level (NIC). The correlation between the variation of the values of IP, IG, PS and NIC and the levels of PSA and PCR was evaluated through Spearman's correlation coefficient. Then, the predictive ability of periodontal parameters at PSA and PCR levels was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test. The level of significance for the analyzes was 5%. Participants with PS ≥5mm showed higher serum PSA compared to those with PS <5mm. No significant differences were found for PCR. Within the limitations of the study, it was possible to observe an association between PS ≥5mm and PSA levels. It is proposed to carry out studies with a larger sample size in order to better elucidate this association.
