Resumo
The objective of this work is to analyze the social thought about family in the Amazon and its articulation with a broader dimension of Brazilian society from Milton Hatoum’s novels: Relato de um certo Oriente; Dois irmãos; Cinzas do Norte e Órfãos do Eldorado. In order to do so, we used as a theoretical-methodological contribution studies of Brazilian social thought that make the family a fruitful bulwark for an interpretation of the nation. More specifically, such as approaches by Gilberto Freyre and Oliveira Vianna and, more specifically, the studies of André Araújo and Samuel Benchimol, authors that present a broad contribution to family studies. Coupled with this, it was used as considerations of contemporary studies on family and a sociological analysis of the romantic texts. Conceiving of literature as a rich source in the expression of social representations and as an instrument capable of contributing to the understanding and interpretation of reality, we seek to indicate to what extent the diacritics of gender, race and class of contours to relations that circumscribe the microcosm in which the family conflict of the people and their respective positions of authority and power in the family are inserted.
