Resumo

The intensity of fishing on catfish stocks in the Amazon region, still in the 1970s, led many species of commercial importance to uncontrolled capture and consequent need for research on the state of exploitation of stocks. Mapará (Hypophthalmus spp.) catch and effort data from Santarém landings were analyzed for the period between 1993-2004 and identified significant variations between the high and low water periods (p <0.05) in relative abundance with capture rates fluctuating over this period. The results also allowed to indicate the fishing days as the unit that best represents the fishing effort employed in the capture of the mapará in this region, with a fleet acting on 6 days a week explaining mainly lake environments during the river flood, indicating a positive relation of the fishing. hydrological cycle with productivity. The stock assessment performed by the conventional Schaefer and Fox models and the ParFish alternative methodology have similar precision power in which the participatory methodology indicates the uncertainty associated with the parameter and can be incorporated into the management measures. The analyzes estimated the maximum sustainable production (YMSY) of less than 700 tons per year and based on the estimated production of 817 tons (2018) indicates a 70% chance that the stock is overfished, making management measures necessary. sustainable exploitation of this resource.
