Resumo
In this research we have the objective to reflect which are the contributions of Education Sociolinguistics to the teaching of Portuguese Language in college. The focus is the appreciation of information given by teachers and students through interviews, searching to understand the role of the Portuguese Language course in college, specifically, on Engineering, Pedagogy and Accounting majors, so that can be a change of behavior in regard to the classroom oriented by the development of a pedagogy culturally sensitive to the sociolinguistics and cultural differences of the students. For that, we present the debate proposed by Bagno, 2002; Bortoni-Ricardo, 2005; Mollica 2007; Matos e Silva 2004; Possenti, 2006; Soares 2002, 2012, Geraldi, 2006, Street, 2014 and others. After the theoretical considerations, we proceed to the analysis of the syllabi of courses, analysis of individual interviews performed with fifteen students of the courses and three teachers, one at which major, and the group interview performed with six students. The results points that teachers and students are distant of achieving an education that are guided with a reflected and critic analyses of the language, especially, on the actions in the classroom and, which, by consequence, are unprepared to the appropriation of the linguistic repertoire that allows them to use, with safety, the monitored styles of language, required in the job market.
