Resumo
Obtaining information and characteristics of the industrial sector through specific studies can support the planning of public policies on regional development. This research was based on analysis of the manufacturing industry of the Amazon, from the density index in 1996-2007, which expresses the percentage of value added in the economy per unit of value produced, and compared the results with the indexes of Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul and Parana. As a complement, did the analysis of gross value added, intermediate consumption and productivity from the Table of Uses and Features of the Amazon in 2006. The results showed that the Amazon has added more value when compared to Brazil and selected states. The activity of manufacture of food and beverages is highlighted by the high density index of its supply chain. As for the value-added and intermediate consumption, activities related to electronic and other communication equipment and other transport equipment had higher shares in total values. Thus, Amazon has taken the opportunity to expand and increase the value added in industrial production
