Anos Vermelhos: classe, gênero e nacionalidade no Movimento Operário de Belém do Pará (1917-1920)

Abstract

The final four years of the 1910s were marked in Belém do Pará, as well as in various parts of the world, by a strong wave of agitation among the urban workers, with the undertaking of at least three general strikes and dozens of localized ones, in addition to other forms of class manifestation; they were true “red years”. Based on the thematic analysis of the working press newspapers published at that juncture (journals such as Jornal do Povo, A Revolta, O Semeador and A Voz do Trabalhador), this dissertation seeks to highlight the human constitution of the class and the labor movement in the Amazonian capital at that time. instant, identifying the most mobilized and organized professional categories, and analyzing their gender composition – assessing the possibilities and limitations of women within these manifestations – and ethnic-national, analyzing the relations of tension and solidarity between workers of national origin and foreign immigrants in class actions in the “city of mangos”.
