A produção de artesanatos pela AVIVE como uma proposta de design sustentável

Abstract

This dissertation concerns the study of the production process of the artifacts developed by the Associação Viva Verde da Amazônia ( AVIVE, in Portuguese) that develops productive activities from the use of non-timber forest resources, involving traditional communities of the Amazonas state. The focus is to understand the production process of artifacts within the design perspective, proposing improvements to the system – both for products and for the processes – and considering the cultural, social and environmental aspects, as well as following the premises of sustainable development. Specifically speaking, the aim was to sought to describe the ways of extraction and use of raw material used in the manufacture of craft products, describe the processes of manufacturing and processing of raw material (as Andiroba, Copaiba, Breu, and Cumaru Puxuri) used by AVIVE, and, finally, to analyze the sustainable design aspects related to the production process of crafts by AVIVE. For the research, as regards the theoretical foundation, we studied the following categories: traditional populations, extraction in Amazon, non-timber forest products, handicrafts and sustainable design. Given these categories, it was possible to perform an environmental assessment of the issue and conclude that – in the face a global perspective of intense social, cultural and economic conditions – there was a transformation in the cultural context of consumers. Today the demand is for products that reflect a green flag and, consequently, a traditional cultural identity and territory. Data collection was made in partnership with the AVIVE women. Besides observing and participating, these women also answered to questionnaires and others.Thus, the reached understanding was that, given the parameters regards sustainable design, it is possible to propose the integration of strategies and actions to enhance the cultural traits of the Amazon, and also to valorize social inclusion of communities, to increase the income and improve quality of products as well as local and regional crafts, adding value to these products and suggesting changes in their visual communication and semi industrial characterized production processes
