Nos trilhos da cidade: a trajetória dos motorneiros e dos bondes em Manaus (1930-1946)

Resumo

The first fifty years of the twentieth century, in the Amazon, are based on many controversies, in the sense of economic stagnation and, consequently, social and political. Manaus through its port, the rubber outlet hub, has experienced unfair competition in the Plantation system, installed in Malaysia, with smuggled seedlings from Brazil; losing a hegemony of the raw material, also known as "white gold." The legacy of the modernization, implemented since the Republic, having as mentor of this project, Eduardo Gonçalves Ribeiro - Governador- continues for years in the city, with a whole architectural and service structure, with nothing left to be desired in relation to the rest of the country. The turnover of extractivism has been increasing and attracting investors of various nationalities, mainly the English. The tram service, brought by the English company Manaós Tramways Light & Co., called our attention because it is wrapped in an entire relationship with the city, entering the landscape with the transportation of passengers and merchandise, distinguishing itself as a necessity for the transfers. Although the city has gone through a financial crisis without proportions, it has sought, every day, to reinvent itself through new strategies of economic survival. Knowing that the exchange of experiences between nationals and foreigners would point to a new trajectory, which was moved daily through the workers of the city; these new social actors, through their demands, are presented as class in the city, starring their own history. In this way, this research seeks to include and highlight the trajectory of the motor-professional that, by assuming his post daily, in the comings and goings through the city, can be proven, through historical sources, leaves marked its participation in the dynamics of the city. Therefore, we sought to bring some of the path of these professionals, which emerged from the ideology of progress, and years later, were extinct by the same ideology, leaving a mix of memory for those who once had the opportunity to use one of the first collective transport City.
