Resumo
Breast cancer has been the source of impact on quality of life of Brazilian women. The study
aims to assess the quality of life in women with breast cancer who underwent neoadjuvant and
adjuvant treatment. This is an exploratory study, descriptive and quantitative study in a
referral center for oncology, in Manaus, Amazonas, from October 2010 to January 2011. The
sample was comprised of 123 women diagnosed with breast cancer undergoing adjuvant and
neoadjuvant treatment. The assessment tool in Quality of Life (QOL) in cancer patients was
the EORTC QLQ C30, which was analyzed by chi-square test, Fisher exact, ANOVA and
Kruskal-Wallis. The program for the analysis was the MINITAB version 15 and R 2110. For
all tests was set iqual confidence limit of 0.05 and a coefficient of 95%. The results show that
are prevalent among women aged 40-50 years (33.6%), married (37.19%), mulatto (58.20%),
with level of schooling in high school ( 30.58%) own their own homes (80.87%), the
predominant religion of Catholics (40.78%) came from the countryside (39%) of the
Amazon. The education and religion are among the variables that interfere in tumor size (p =
0.019 and p = 0.044, respectively), which have sizes being 2 cm (pT1) and 2 to 5 cm in
greatest dimension (pT2). These are women who have difficulty in performing activities of
great physical effort do not report difficulty performing physical activities and small social or
have limitations for daily activities. Rate their general health and overall bad as confirmed by
the p-value = 0.001. We conclude that women are showing their commitment to quality of life
and they need to continue their routine of support and psychological support.
