Resumo
Claraboia is the exhibition of the urban reality of the city of Lisbon during the period of
dictatorship in Portugal, formed after the mass migration of the rural population, the great
crisis of 29 and the consequences of revolutions contrary to the Government, when the old
buildings were made up of a few floors and accumulated whole families in small
apartments under precarious conditions. Through this image, José de Sousa Saramago
presents the typical internal, social, political and economic conflicts that are also present in
the other works, instigating questions about the social posture and the rigors imposed by
the dictatorship, already focusing on the dimensioning of women's roles in a process of
social transformation, before transforming themselves. Ironies, punctuations, and
counterpoints are arranged to collaborate with the exposition of these scenes, suggesting
confrontations of opinions and, at the same time, guarding ideas of different natures, in the
sense of deconstructing the myths of Portugal and the moralism imposed by the
government of that time. This text presents possibilities of narrative strategies responsible
for the deconstruction of absolute truths regarding postures determined for social relations,
for the behavior of the family and for the feminine places, making possible alternative
propositions to which we should remain susceptible to a democratic and conscious reading,
allowing to experience new ones, others and even unknown truths.
