Resumo

This thesis deals with Sateré-Mawé symbolic cultural processes, present in the production of artifacts, developed in the traditional Sateré-Mawé community in the Andirá-Marau indigenous land in the municipality of Parintins - Amazonas / Brazil. They were named as specific objectives: To investigate the symbols, origin and their relation with the Sateré-Mawé indigenous culture; Describe the cultural relationship and artifact production; Describe the meanings of symbols included in the marketed products. Semi-structured interviews will be carried out with the indigenous actors and analysis of the graphics present in the influential artifacts of the productive process. The interdisciplinary scenario led to the basic structuring of the research, aiming at understanding the object. The main conjectures are: There is an appropriation of the symbolic, ancestral and cultural material used in the artifacts for commercial purposes; In the absence of information on ancestry, the indigenous craftsman invents, changes and modifies the sign, creating innovations, he cares about the market, making a dialogue with Western means of production and traditional indigenous knowledge, as postulated by the ecology of knowledge (SANTOS, 2007); Some of these signs recorded in the Sateré-Mawé artifacts are part of a primitive language of immemorial times, they are ways of representing the world, the relations of the natives with their people, their rituals, with life and Nature.
