Resumo
For millions of Brazilian students, school transport is not an option, but the only way to access
school. In the reality of the rural context, school transport is configured as one of the most
important and fundamental services for access to education. Given the above, this research aims
to analyze the public policy of rural school transport in the Amazon and its impacts on the
teaching and learning process of students in Complexo do Zé Açú, in the municipality of
Parintins, with the following specific objectives as north: Understanding the historical process
of rural education in Brazil and in the state of Amazonas; Analyze public education policies in
relation to school transport; Know the context of school river transport in the municipality of
Parintins; Characterize the social, economic and cultural aspects of the Zé-Açú complex; and
Analyze the conditions of the school river transport that makes the journey of students to
schools in the Zé-Açú complex, with a view to identifying its influences on the daily life, on
the teaching process and on the students' learning. Therefore, an exploratory and descriptive
study was developed, based on a literature review, document analysis and field research with
the collection of semi-structured interviews with six teachers from the community of Bom
Socorro do Zé Açú. The results of this study point to a gap between what the Federal
Constitution provides and access to education in the reality of the rural context of Amazonas.
Regarding the path of public policy on school transport, it is understood that there is a need to
develop decentralized public policies, in the perspective of a construction directed to regional
particularities, with recognition of the potential of states and municipalities. In addition, this
study allowed us to understand that there is a tortuous path for the implementation of rural
education policies in the community of Bom Socorro do Zé Açú, which reflects the reality of
most communities in the Lower Amazon, where school transport does not supply the real needs
of the students who need to “face the bazeiro” to get to school.
