Resumo
Scientific journals constitute the main form of academic communication, acting as a qualitative
filter, guided by the proper rules of scientific communication, validating and situating the degree
of originality of the content. They are marked by indexing institutions, providers and scientific
libraries. The purpose of this paper is to develop a way of analyzing the editorial production of
scientific journals and drawing from this process recommendations to improve their performance.
For this, a survey was made about the technological scenario in which they are located and the
analysis of the Brazilian scientific journals in the best position in the ranking of the Journal Citation
Reports (JCR), which in turn are used as a parameter for the analysis of Acta Amazonica magazine,
under the optics of the editorial production process and emphasizing the change of support from
print to online and its implications. This assessment is based on data from the online publication
from 2004 to 2018 and the technological implications that interfered with the editorial
management used in this time period. From this survey it was possible to define the main variables
to generate an analytical model, in this context Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO)
proved to be the most important database for national journals and their indexing criteria were
relevant. For validation, in the first phase data were submitted from four journals at predetermined
levels, and in the second phase one journal. One of the results was the possibility of generating a
ranking of the editorial production based on the score obtained by the journal, that the better the
grade obtained in better level is the editorial production. Another result is the generation of
analytical report presenting positive and negative points and possible solutions, generating
guidelines for the production management of scientific journals.
