Resumo

This research aimed to propose guidelines for the formation and development of lean collection for school libraries, based on lean philosophy. Three specific objectives were developed: discussing possibilities of aligning lean principles and the five laws of library science; discussing possibilities of applying lean principles in order to improve library management through lean collection; validating five basic guidelines for lean collection creation according managers librarians view from school libraries in Manaus. Method: Aiming to achieve the goals, a methodological research was carried out on school libraries in Manaus. Forty-five managers librarians participated on this survey and the data collection instrument was a Likert Scale questionnaire. The results analysis was done through weighted average and the variables analysis adopted a scale based on the average of the respondents acceptance score. Results: As a conclusion there was is a high level of agreement by the acceptance of the five basic guidelines for lean collection creation for school libraries, under a perception that these guidelines represents a new strategic way to improve library services in terms of creation, organization and development of school collections.
