Resumo

The National Policy of Attention to Indigenous Peoples was one of the great achievements of the traditional peoples in the scope of the public policies, acquired rights to a differentiated health attention that would attend to their sociodiversity. One of its guidelines in the area of oral health emphasizes the importance of knowing the epidemiological profile and oral health problems of indigenous groups, stating that in order to better identify the main groups of actions for the promotion, protection and recovery of health. Through this guideline, an epidemiological study was carried out on the prevalence of caries with newly arrived natives living in the Javari Valley, Matis and Korubo, between the years of 2013 and 2016, through the data analysis, it was possible to identify that young people have a higher prevalence of caries and Matis women have a higher prevalence of caries than men and that the prevalence of caries has been increasing over the years. Through these data, it is discussed how the influence of socio-cultural habits and food practices of these peoples affect the health-disease process and how the intercultural contact between the two ethnic groups and the non-Indian directly affect this process.
