Resumo
The Superintendency of the Amazonian Economic Valorization Plan (SPVEA) was constituted in 1953 to materialize plans for a drastic structural regional change. The economic and social development of the Amazon, which had already been thought since the previous decade, should establish the definitive integration of the region with the rest of the country. The proposed objective was to establish how the institution worked and why it did not achieve the expected results, becoming a poorly seen body. There was also a need to determine why SPVEA emerged only in the 1950s, since the Amazon was in crisis since the 1910s and how the relationship between the institution and the state of Amazonas occurred. Official publications of the Superintendency, the Union and the Amazon were used, as well as speeches and messages from its representatives published in the press from Amazonas and Rio de Janeiro. SPVEA, in addition to dealing with numerous problems in its internal structure, was target for disinterest and disrespect of Union and even the amazonian states, which did not comply with their constitutional obligations, causing serious consequences for the federal agency.. This set of factors, allied to the discredit caused by the accusations of corruption over the years, led to its extinction in 1966.
