O protagonismo indígena entre os Sateré-Mawé: lutas e resistências

Abstract

This study assumes the purpose of verifying the indigenous protagonism among the Sateré-Mawé, their struggles and resistance from the village to the city, in the strengthening of autonomy and self-determination. The study responds to a methodological and theoretical perspective that will be developed based on the symbolic cartography proposed by Boaventura Santos, considered as one of the main highlights for qualitative research, with symbolization as a representation of the reality to be researched. The research locus was the district of Ponta Alegre Sateré-Mawé, located on the right bank of the Andirá River, 60 km from the municipality of Barreirinha and 100 km from the municipality of Parintins. We seek to know if there is really evidence of the leading role of indigenous leaders, especially those of Sateré-Mawé, which is revealed throughout the historical process of struggles and resistance, in the village-to-city construct. The main results revealed that the political and cultural role played by traditional leaderships and indigenous political leaderships has a representative and significant role within the villages, even with conflicting relationships for the search for power in a social construct that move from village to city. It must be concluded that the positioning of political and cultural actions of indigenous leaders, in articulation with civil society, is characterized in the recognition of the other and defends the conviviality with the differences, the autonomy and the valorization of the cultural tradition permeated by a dialogue between the local and the global.
