Resumo
This dissertation seeks to discuss and problematize the problem of acceleration,
nostalgia and experiences of time in the present based on the Polish sociologist
Zygmunt Bauman. The central objective of the research aims to understand how
acceleration and nostalgia are temporally articulated, when glimpsed from Bauman's
work, seeking to elaborate to a large extent the main temporal tensions that may arise.
In this way, we seek to understand how the past, present and future are articulated and
related based on the Baumannian sociological program, with the notion of “liquidity” as
central to our analytical focus. To this end, the dialogue with Reinhart Koselleck,
historians and intellectuals who have studied the problem of time and acceleration in
contemporary times becomes an essential methodological strategy. Furthermore, to
return to the relationship between acceleration and nostalgia, we seek to discuss how
one topic is linked to the other, privileging in the analysis of the notion of “retrotopia”,
formulated by Bauman, some tensions related to the experience of time and the interface
between past and present. Our main result, therefore, is that from Bauman it is possible
to identify a relationship between acceleration (liquidity) and nostalgia (retrotopia) in
several aspects. We seek, with this, to contribute in some way to discussions in History
Theory, historiography, interdisciplinary dialogue and debates about the meanings of
contemporary Historical Time.
