Resumo

Fish farming in Brazil is growing more and more due to the great interest in species native to the Amazon region. Brazil is the third largest producer of tropical and exotic fruits in the world, preceded by China and India. The processing of these fruits aiming at food products such as jelly, juices, pulps, and sweets, generate a surplus of organic material that is discarded because it is considered agroindustrial waste, and its processing and transformation can present fundamental ingredients for animal feed. These residues are rich source of vitamins, minerals, energy, fiber and protein, which can be used in feed. This research aimed to evaluate the use of agroindustrial wastes in feed for juvenile tambaqui, verifying the use of these wastes on their productive performance and their effects on the centesimal composition of the fillet. Therefore, three experimental diets were prepared, one without added fruit residue (control), one containing 30% acerola residue, and another containing 30% guava residue. Physicochemical parameters of water quality were analyzed in the different treatments. The diets were prepared in an isonutritive form and tested for a period of 90 days, with the fish kept in 1000 L water tanks. The results showed no significant difference between the treatments, and it can be concluded so far that the inclusion of acerola and guava waste can be present in the diets of juvenile tambaqui as an alternative food source, being low-cost products for feed production and good economic viability, minimizing spending on traditional ingredients, avoiding waste and environmental impacts caused by them.
