Perfil epidemiológico da doença de chagas em populações indígenas no estado do Amazonas – Brasil

Resumo

Objective: analyze the epidemiological profile of Chagas disease cases among Indigenous populations in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, between 2018 and 2023. Methods: This is a descriptive study in which all reported cases of Chagas disease among Indigenous people in Amazonas between 2018 and 2023 were analyzed. Data were collected from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Between 2018 and 2023, the study found a low incidence rate of Chagas disease, with an approximate average of 1 case for every 100,000 indigenous people in Amazonas. The cases were predominantly among males, young individuals, and illiterate persons. The municipality with the highest number of reported cases was Barcelos. Most cases occurred in April. The most common clinical manifestations included persistent fever, followed by asthenia, facial/limb edema, and inoculation chagoma/Romanã's sign. Regarding treatment, benznidazole was the most commonly used drug, with a treatment duration of 60 days. Conclusion: The study highlighted that Chagas disease remains a neglected tropical disease among Indigenous populations in the region. Therefore, strengthening prevention and control strategies is necessary to reduce this population's vulnerability to the disease.
