Comparação do efeito do uso de ibuprofeno e da terapia de fotobiomodulação sobre a dor pós-operatória em endodontia: estudo clínico controlado e randomizado

Abstract

The objective of this study was to compare the effect of the use of the anti-inflammatory Ibuprofen 600mg and the use of photobiomodulation therapy with low-power laser on postoperative pain after endodontic treatment of molars, by means of a double-blind randomized clinical trial. We selected 70 patients with indication for endodontic treatment in the outpatient clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry of UFAM, diagnosed with irreversible pulpitis. Endodontic treatment was performed in a single session in all patients by a single operator. After endodontic treatment, patients were randomly divided into 2 groups who received the proposed intervention after randomization. In the active control group, Ibuprofen 600 mg was used with a dosage of one tablet in the 12-hour interval with a duration of 24 hours, totaling 2 tablets. In the Laser group, the photobiomodulation technique was performed with the low-power laser immediately after the endodontic intervention. The patients were blinded in the study. The evaluation of postoperative pain was performed by a blinded investigator to the treatments, through telephone calls, where the pain intensity experienced by the patient was recorded at 6, 12, 24 and 72 hours after endodontic treatment. the discrete numerical (NRS) and verbal ordinal description (RSV) for pain measurement. The results showed a superiority of the use of the laser in the interval of 6h (p = 0.007), 12h (p = 0.005) and 24h (p = 0.001) on the use of ibuprofen, already within 72h intervals (p = 0.31), the results were similar in both groups, both on the RSV scale and NRS. It was concluded that the use of low-power laser photobiomodulation was effective in reducing pain at intervals of 6h, 12h and 24h compared to administration of 600mg Ibuprofen.
