Guardando a memória: acervos arqueológicos e coleções domésticas em Maués-Amazonas

Resumo

The dissertation "Preserving Memory: Archaeological Collections and Domestic Collections in Maués, Amazonas" explores the formation and preservation of archaeological collections in Brazil, focusing on domestic collections in the city of Maués, Amazonas. The research is divided into two main parts. The first part presents the theoretical and historical foundations of the study of material culture in Brazil, discussing fundamental concepts of archaeology and the history of the discipline in the national context. The second part applies these theoretical foundations in a case study in Maués, reflecting on the archaeological collection in the Amazon and its implications for the preservation of Brazilian cultural heritage. The dissertation highlights the importance of archaeological collections for understanding social and historical relations, as well as contemporary challenges in their management and interpretation. The final discussion connects the case study results with existing literature, proposing pathways for the valorization and repatriation of artifacts, as well as suggesting the creation of community museums.
