Resumo

The process of modernization of Brazilian agriculture brought different socioeconomic and environmental impacts, with the so-called Green Revolution. Poverty was intensified by the uneven distribution of land, displacement of family farmers to urban centers and increased poverty in the rural world. Since the mid-2000s, the Brazilian State has sought to meet the demands of family farmers by creating specific public policies, in which institutional programs for the purchase of food from family farmers stand out. The main objective of this research was to evaluate the impacts generated in the sustainability of family agriculture from the operationalization of the Food Acquisition Program (PAA). The research partners were family farmers associated with the Association of Rural Producers of the Nova Esperança Community (ASPRONES), which develop their activities along the branch of the Bank, in the municipality Rio Preto da Eva. This municipality stands out for the volume of production negotiated with the PAA program. Different methodological instruments were used as field research and application of forms (socioeconomic, Brazilian scale of food insecurity and frequency of feeding). The results indicate that in the comparison between the two groups of family farmers: suppliers and non-suppliers, we can see the influence of the program in its different aspects. The result allows to conclude that the PAA contributed to the sustainability of family farmers. Keywords: Family farming. Sustainability. Public policies. Food security.
