Resumo

The participation of women in social struggles with the feminist movement or women has always been a recurring event in the history. In this sense this work has as main objective to verify the emergence of women as political subject in Brazilian society, with special emphasis on organization of women of the Women's Movement for House Orchids in the fight for housing in Manaus, and are based on the analysis of their political practice the movement for public policies, especially housing. It is known that the housing problem becomes, today, one of the major problems to be resolved by the state, causing social movements act as the glue to the fight that will ensure the effectiveness of public housing policy guiding some achievements, including the recognition of women as collective subjects and main signatories of the right to housing. The research was conducted with 30 women signatory Orchids Movement, as well as social workers who work with families in the division Residential Orchids project, leaders of the house by fighting moves in Manaus and the National Union for Popular Housing - UNMP. Among the multiple aspects observed can be seen that the invisibility of its performance is due, primarily, to the patriarchal values historically inserted in society, and that their participation in social movements allows to build new looks on their presence in public space as collective subject of rights. Finally, it is believed that women's participation in social movements allows its recognition and its demands as collective subjects that have political conditions to reconstruct its history contradicting the dominant discourse that considers women as weak and submissive and therefore, unable to participate in decision-making and power in society.
