Prevalência da infecção por Citomegalovirus no Brasil e na região metropolitana de Manaus

Abstract

Introduction: The cytomegalovirus (CMV) or herpesvirus - 5 (HHV – 5) is a human herpesvirus, being a common infection around the world, mainly in poor regions without sanitation and proper hygiene conditions. It’s an enveloped virus and also has the biggest genome between viruses that infect animal species. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of the infection by cytomegalovirus in Brazil and in the Metropolitan Region of Manaus. Methods: Two studies were made. A study conducted the systematic review of studies published in Brazil that estimated the prevalence of infection by cytomegalovirus. The other study estimated the prevalence of infection by cytomegalovirus through serological analysis of anti-CMV immunoglobulins IgG and IgM of the blood collected from individuals living in the Metropolitan Region of Manaus. Results: It was observed on the systematic review that the prevalence of infection by cytomegalovirus in Brazil was 56%, (CI 95% 27-85%). The data showed a high level of heterogeneity (I² = 99.98%). The study of seroprevalence in the Metropolitan Region of Manaus identified a prevalence of 89.5% of seroprevalence to IgG and 1.9% to IgM. Conclusion: The difference founded in the prevalence of the two studies suggests a difference in the populations studied. The infection by cytomegalovirus tends to be more common in Metropolitan Region of Manaus than in other brazilian contexts.
