Resumo

The Mauritia flexuosa L. f (Arecaceae) is a regional palm and popularly known as buriti. The fruits of this species are commonly consumed fresh or as liqueurs, ice cream and juices. The oil extracted from its fruits is used to produce cosmetics and other parts of the palm are used to cover houses and riverine craft. Based on popular use of the species and studies previously described in the literature, the study of metabolites of the fruits of the species was conducted. First the characterization of fatty acids of oils extracted from different parts of the fruits was determined. The peel and fruit pulp oils of buriti had as the main component oleic acid, 77.6% and 79.2 %, respectively. The main fatty acid present in the oil seeds was linoleic acid (47 2% ) that it is in agreement with data published in the literature. The antioxidant activity of fractions of methanol extracts of fruits was determined by FRAP and DPPH assays. In both trials, it was observed that the fraction with the highest antioxidant activity was the ethyl acetate fraction from fruit peels that showed correlation with the content of total phenolics determined by the Folin-Ciocalteu assay. The chemical characterization of methanolic extracts was performed by a targeted analysis, which was developed in this work, based on LC-UV-MS that employed RP-HPLC with a PFP column, ionization by electrospray, and a time-of-flight (TOF) detector. Based on this method, a dereplication library was built with retention time, UV spectra and MS fragmentation data acquired both in positive and negative mode of twenty eight samples of phenolics standards commonly found in plant material. All fractions from different parts of fruits of Mauritia flexuosa Lf were analysed by this method and eleven phenolic constituents were identified: (-)-gallocatechin gallate, (±) Narigenina, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, gallic acid, syringic acid, baicalein, isorramnetina, luteolin, quercitrin and naringin, which have not been previously in the literature from buriti.
