Abstract

This research work aims to analyze the sociocultural and environmental transformations of the way of life of the Amazonian river dwellers of the community of São Francisco da Costa Terra Nova, after the installation of electric energy. From the rescue of memory of the community dynamic before, during and after insertion of electricity, it will be possible to understand the changes and transformations occurring within the community.The tradition is strongly lived in the riverside communities and this relationship with the environment in which they live it is permeated with singularities, knowledge and respect. However, these populations need access to goods and services that are not always guaranteed, as is the case with electric energy, which is accessible only through struggles and community engagement. Access to electricity is a social good that must be guaranteed as it is necessary for the improvement of the quality of life. However, this time of changes brings with it restlessness and reflections, especially with regard to the transformations and the impacts that the way of life of these populations suffer - that maintains themselves with knowledge and practices of total harmony with the nature, respect for the environment and aiming at the Maintenance of the subsistence of their groups - and at the same time as guaranteeing adequate access to goods and services, among them, electric energy. For the accomplishment of this research work we used the qualitative methodology with the use of ethnographic instruments and oral history. It is understood that electric energy is a basic service, and given the difficulties of access to the Amazon, energy represents the possibility of health posts, improved production, telephony, food preservation. Finally, its use brings the possibility of acquiring social equipment, which opens new doors to a series of transformations in the way of life of the Amazonian peasant that will be debated in the course of this research
