Mulheres negras no livro didático Sociologia em Movimento PNLD/2018: uma análise interseccional

Resumo

This dissertation, entitled Black women in the textbook Sociologia em Movimento PNLD/2018: an intersectional analysis, presents na investigation about the representation of black women in this textbook, which was offered to students in the three grades of High School and the most requested by Brazilian educational institutions. The research was based on Intersectional Theory - resulting of the black feminists’ theoretical efforts - which considers the various nuances of oppression permeating these women’s lives. The aim was to find out how this textbook presents issues relating to race, gender and social class, given that, for centuries, education has been based on a Eurocentric view of the world, failing to give importance and prominence to the black population, especially to the black women in the Brazilian social context. Furthermore, it was attempted to understand how the High School Sociology curriculum addresses and complies the legislation that makes compulsory the teaching of Afro-Brazilian and indigenous history and culture in educational establishments, and what importance is given to black women in the textbook in question. In methodological terms, a qualitative approach was adopted, based on a critical analysis of the analysed textbook, using Intersectionality as a theoretical methodological tool. The study addressed the historical, social and political contextualisation of the Sociology teaching in Brazil, marked by comings and goings in the school curriculum, as well as criticising colonial theories. Based on black feminism assumptions, it was also developed a critical reflection on the Sociology curriculum, materialised in the textbook, arguing that it plays a significant role in educating students on issues of race, gender and class. Os resultados evidenciaram que, em alguns capítulos, o livro didático analisado cumpre a legislação antirracista, reconhece e valoriza a diversidade e as complexidades das relações raciais no Brasil, destacando a importância das mulheres negras. The results showed that, in some chapters, the analysed textbook complies with anti-racist legislation, recognises and values the diversity and complexities of race relations in Brazil, highlighting the black women’s importance.
