Resumo
In order to highlight the women's contribution exercised in the work performed in
rubber plantations of the state of Acre, located in south of the northern region of
Brazil, this paper aims to demonstrate how women contributed effectively cutting the
rubber trees in latex collection, in the handmade manufacture of rubber, in the
agriculture and in the constitution and establishment of immigrant families that came
from the brazilian northeast region. Through reports obtained by interviews and
informal taks with rubber workers showing which are their main functions while
residing in the rubber plantations between the years 1960-1980, from oral narratives,
women report how they used their talents and resources to help in support of their
families, how they persisted every day and how this so hard labor brought harmful
consequences to health, portraying their experiences in the forest as rubber tapper,
farmers, fisherwomen and helpers in many functions.
