Educação na Amazônia brasileira: a importância da fixação da Universidade Federal do Amazonas no município de Benjamin Constant

Abstract

The work deals with the importance of setting the Federal University of Amazonas - UFAM in Benjamin Constant (AM) for regional development. The general objective was to analyze the expansion project of the Federal University of Amazonas in Benjamin Constant, and the following objectives: to contextualize Benjamin Constant in the Amazon scenario; see how the expansion project, internalization policy of undergraduate education was implemented in Benjamin Constant, through the Program of Support for the Restructuring and Expansion of Federal Universities -REUNI check the actions of the Federal University of Amazonas in Benjamin Constant. From references and documentary research provided by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the State Secretariat for Economic Planning and Development (SEPLAN), Institute for Nature and Culture (INC), Pro-Rector of Extension and Internalization of the Federal University Amazon (UFAM) and other sources of secondary data, it was possible access to subsidize the results, although partial, on the theme. To elucidate some doubts and achievement of objectives, the work also sought to examine the neoliberal policies imposed by international organizations that promoted the Reform of the State in which it operates the Reform of Policies for Higher Education implemented from the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso (1995- 2002), and Luis Inacio Lula da Silva (2003-2010) in which the outlines REUNI project in that county. It was concluded the work stating that the establishment of the Federal University of Amazonas contributes to economic development in the city, based on social economic indicators that make up the Human Development Index - HDI, although it has quite discreetly increased Gross Domestic Product - PIB from the state of Amazonas, which signals economic growth.
