Resumo
By 2025, as predicted by the World Health Organization (WHO), Brazil will occupy the sixth position globally in the number of elderly people. There still persists significant misinformation regarding the health of the elderly, covering the particularities and challenges posed by population aging to public health in our social context. The aging of the population represents one of humanity's greatest triumphs, as well as one of its most substantial challenges. However, elderly people are often overlooked as a human resource, even though they represent a valuable asset to the structure of our societies. In this context, the present study aims, as its general objective, to analyze the scenarios and public policies aimed at the elderly in the Nogueira district. As for specific objectives, it proposes to: a) describe the public policies directed at the elderly population; b) characterize the profile of elderly residents in the Nogueira district; c) identify the health infrastructure available to the elderly population. The research will be conducted in the Nogueira District, located in the municipality of Alvarães, in the central part of the state of Amazonas. The mentioned district is home to 200 families, totaling 813 inhabitants, of which approximately 79 are elderly, both men and women. The adopted methodology is centered on bibliographic review focused on the study of aging, in addition to fieldwork, which includes open and closed interviews with the application of questionnaires. The collected information will be integrated and analyzed, forming the research base. Thus, it is expected that the study will contribute to a better understanding of public policies, emphasizing the health dimension directed towards the elderly of the Nogueira district. It is also intended to correlate the obtained data with research previously carried out by other authors in the areas of Geography and Gerontology. It is highlighted that this research, through its investigation and analysis, may assist in understanding the aspects related to the aging of the riverside population, a particular context of the Amazon reality. Finally, it is hoped that the collected and generated data will contribute to the development of more effective public policies. Therefore, this study should corroborate reflections on aging and how Geography can contribute to this important theme.
