A trajetória da mulher Warao do delta do Orinoco até Manaus: continuidades e rupturas

Resumo

This dissertation aims to describe the trajectory of the woman of the indigenous Venezuelan Warao ethnic group, from the Orinoco delta, in northeastern Venezuela to Manaus, capital of Amazonas, in the Northern region of Brazil. This theme encourages us to address issues such as migration, feminization of migration and urban indigenous peoples. The importance of the Warao woman is timely in their community. She has a privileged position, because she is the ultimate holder of the culture and traditions of her people, that is, for being, together with the elders, the cultural foundation of the community. In addition to the bibliographic research, the present work - with a qualitative approach - relied on field research, with an emphasis on participant observation and conducting semi-structured interviews, in order to listen to the protagonists of this trajectory. These women were between 30 and 65 years old and live in the Warao Tarumã I and II shelters, in addition to women who live autonomously in the peripheral neighborhoods of Manaus. It was observed that this woman - indigenous and immigrant - struggles daily for her material survival and for the maintenance of her culture in a place that is not always human and inclusive, because it denies them the assistance and economic and social support that are so necessary and decisive for those who are restarting their lives and their history.
