Fatores de risco associados a Doença Arterial Obstrutiva de membros inferiores em pacientes atendidos no Centro de Atenção a melhor idade Dr. Paulo Lima na cidade de Manaus

Resumo

Peripheral Obstructive Arterial Disease is a consequence of the atherosclerotic process leading to narrowing and stiffening of the arterial lumen. The presence of subclinical markers of atherosclerosis such as the ankle-brachial index below 0.90 demonstrated its predictive capacity for the diagnosis of atherosclerosis. This study aimed to identify the presence of peripheral arterial disease through the ankle-brachial index and its association with cardiovascular risk factors in the elderly. The study design was case-control, where cases were those with an ankle-brachial index equal to or below 0.90 and controls were individuals with an index above 0.90. Sixty-two (62) cases and 125 controls were included. The risk factors evaluated were: arterial hypertension, diabetes, obesity, smoking, physical activity, presence of angina, family history of cardiovascular disease, serum levels of total cholesterol and fractions, triglycerides, alcohol consumption. Statistical analysis was performed using univariate analysis. The statistical analysis was performed using univariate analysis. The following risk factors were associated with peripheral arterial disease: angina (OR 2,7 IC 95% 1,3-5,4), exertional angina (OR 2,4 IC 95% 1,2-4,9), psychological stress angina (OR 15,8 IC 1,9-131,4), angina at rest (OR 9,7 IC 95% 3,0-30,6), electrocardiogram abnormalities (OR 2,6 IC 95% 1,5-5,4), t-wave inversions (OR 2,8 IC95% 1,5 – 5,4), left ventricular hypertrophy (OR 2,7 IC 95% 1,3-5,2), serum glucose > 126 mg/dl (OR 4,1 IC 95% 1,3 12,7). Angina, electrocardiogram abnormalities suggesting coronary heart disease and diabetes were associated with peripheral arterial disease in elderly patients from CAIMI, Manaus. Key Word: Ankle-braquial index, Peripheral Obstructive Arterial Disease, cardiovascular risk factors, elderly
